Education & Spirituality
Educational Events
A variety of educational opportunities is available. Some are provided on an archdeaconry basis through the diocese and others are arranged locally. Notices advertising these events can be found in The Messenger, the monthly bulletin, and on the parish notice board in the church foyer. People are encouraged to take advantage of such events. An archdeaconry conference is run yearly.
Giving
The parish has a commitment to giving 10 percent of the offerings to missions. Five percent goes to overseas missions, mainly through the Anglican Board of Missions which supports overseas projects; the remaining 5 percent is given as love offerings. These are usually to local or national projects and are distributed by the vestry.
Training Events
Training is provided for various aspects of ministry on a regular basis. This covers aspects such as readers, intercessors, listening skills, and bereavement visiting. If you are interested in exploring where you may be able to help in the ministry of the parish please speak to the vicar.
Publications
A range of publications is sent to the parish. These are made available as appropriate on the table in the foyer or on the book shelf at the back of the church.
Library
A few books are held at the back of the church and in the Nora Brown Hall. These are available for borrowing. Many are of a pastoral nature. More reference books are available from the parish library.
Study Groups
Lenten study groups are run during Lent and other study groups are convened from time to time.
Reflective Prayer
A group of people who find reflective prayer helpful meet weekly during term time at one of their homes. If you are interested in finding out more about this group then please speak to Jo Mawdsley who leads this group or contact the vicar.
