This covers several bereavement programmes. One, after school, is for children aged 5 to 12. The programme runs over nine weeks with trained companions working with small groups of similar-aged children. These children may have experienced grief through the death of a parent, sibling, grandparent or a close friend or through separation or divorce. The opportunity to share in a safe, confidential situation with people of similar age, experiencing similar losses, in their lives can help the children to deal with their grief differently and hopefully in a more helpful way. Others are for children in school and for families with a member suffering a life-threatening illness.
People helped by Seasons in the year to June 2014:
High school + Tuakau: 17
Primary schools — Valley + Glenbrook: 29
After school: 37
Living with life-threatening illness: 2
Marisa Skilton is responsible for running the after-school programme and Debra Wilcox runs the programmes in schools.
